JetBlue’s Airbus A220 Fleet Expands Its Reach With Some of the Airline’s Longest Narrow-Body Flights

JetBlue Airways is continuing to grow the role of it’s Airbus A220-300 aircraft, with the modern airliner operating most of the airline’s longest nonstop flights around the U.S. With several JetBlue A220 flights now running close to seven hours, the fleet’s range, fuel efficiency and passenger comfort is proving to be an attractive package.

As Airbus A220s gradually tend their to JetBlue’s fleet renewal programs, in the bed of replacing the company’s older Embraer E190s, their quieter cabin, larger windows and per car more overhead bin space and better fuel economy are allowing them to become platforms on many of the longest nonstop domestic routes in the United States.

Why the Airbus A220 Is Ideal for Long Flights

Despite being narrow-bodies, Airbus A220s are short to medium haul, not long enough to actually be comfortable on long domestic flights.

Things A220s have upgraded to include are larger windows, wider economy seats, LED lights and quieter engines, which means that overall it’s a more comfortable ride than many used narrow-bodies.

Supporting JetBlue’s Fleet Modernization

JetBlue has been ordering Airbus A220 airliners for years — as part of a long-term scheme to modernise its fleet. JetBlue intends to replace its ageing Embraer E190 airliners with the A220, which it regards as a more fuel-efficient plane that would allow the airline to operate longer routes that are more profitable.

JetBlue can also use the aircraft’s flexibility to more closely match capacity with passenger demand and to keep nonstop service on important domestic routes

A Better Experience for Travelers

Everyone gets to have a power outlet and personal entertainment and onward, there’s onboard Wi-Fi to keep everyone connected. Also, the layout is great, with fewer middle seats than a lot of other narrow-body competitors and that really pays off on six- or seven-hour flights.

Looking Ahead

JetBlue will likely begin using the aircraft more throughout its network as more Airbus A220s arrive on the airline’s fleet. The A220’s extended range, lower operating costs and higher levels of passenger comfort make the aircraft an invaluable asset in JetBlue’s expansion plans.

The Airbus A220 has already demonstrated that a modern narrow-body aircraft can comfortably fly some of the airline’s longest domestic routes and provide an improved on-board experience for travelers on routes now running for nearly seven hours nonstop.
