American Airlines Reaches Major Milestone In Latin America
American Airlines will now serve 100 destinations in Latin America and the Caribbean region after launching new routes to Venezuela and Haiti. The move further makes American one of the top airlines in the United States that connects the country to Latin America and the Caribbean.
The airline reached the milestone in its centennial year and marks American’s continued focus on expanding its network in international markets. The new destinations will be served through the airline’s large Miami hub, which remains its primary gateway to Latin America.

As part of the expansion, American Airlines will begin flights between Miami and Maracaibo, Venezuela, on July 14. The new route will link America’s only nonstop flight to Maracaibo, giving travelers a direct flight option for visiting family and for business travel.
The move comes in the wake of America’s recent re-entry in the Venezuelan market after several years out of the country. The airline resumed service to Caracas earlier this year and is now continuing its growth in the country with the addition of Maracaibo.
American plans to operate the route daily using Embraer E175 aircraft, giving passengers access to both economy and premium seating options.
Haiti Returns To America’s Route Map
The airline is also preparing to resume flights to Haiti. Starting November 1, American Airlines will launch daily service between Miami and Cap-Haitien, becoming the first U.S. airline to announce its return to Haiti following the suspension of service in recent years. Travelers from cities across the United States will also be able to connect through Miami for easier access to Cap-Haitien.
While flights to Port-au-Prince remain restricted because of ongoing security concerns, service to Cap-Haïtien is expected to provide an important connection between the two countries.
Miami Continues To Lead The Way
Miami International Airport remains at the center of American Airlines Latin American strategy. The airline operates hundreds of daily departures from Miami and serves more destinations in Latin America and the Caribbean than any other U.S. carrier.
With the addition of Venezuela and Haiti, America’s network in the region will be nearly 50% larger than its closest U.S. competitor during the upcoming winter season. The airline believes this growth will provide customers with more nonstop travel options and stronger connections across the region.
More Growth Expected Ahead
American Airlines says the expansion is part of its long-term commitment to Latin America and the Caribbean. Along with the new routes, the carrier is increasing flights on several existing routes and continuing investments in its Miami operations.
Adding the Maracaibo and Cap-Haitien routes also serves as a symbolic milestone for the first 100 destinations but also underlines the airline’s optimism about the future travel demand for the region, with American Airlines positioning itself as the leading airline as it enters its next century.
